Weapons Testing Methodology
Our rankings reflect real in-game performance across damage-per-second, accuracy, range, reload speed, and magazine size — not the in-game stat bars, which are known to mislead on several weapons. We tested each weapon across open confrontations, cover-based firefights, and moving vehicle combat scenarios.
Best Pistol: Heavy Pistol
The Heavy Pistol (Mark I) offers the best damage-per-shot among handguns while maintaining usable accuracy at medium range. Pair with a suppressor for stealth approaches. The Pistol .50 is a close alternative for maximum stopping power at short range. Both significantly outperform the standard Combat Pistol in a sustained firefight.
Best Assault Rifle: Special Carbine
The Special Carbine consistently performs best across all combat scenarios in GTA Online and story mode. High accuracy, excellent damage per magazine, and manageable recoil make it the reliable all-situation choice. Upgraded with a suppressor and extended magazine, it handles virtually every combat context from short to medium-long range.
Best Sniper: Heavy Sniper
The Heavy Sniper (0.50 calibre) kills most human targets with a single body shot and can penetrate light vehicle armour — making it exceptional for mission-critical long-range targets and anti-vehicle work. The Heavy Sniper Mark II with explosive rounds is the most powerful weapon in the game but costs significantly more per shot.
Best Shotgun: Bullpup Shotgun
The Bullpup Shotgun's fire rate advantage over pump-action alternatives makes it superior for sustained close-quarters combat. One or two shots clear most enemies in tight interior spaces. The Combat Shotgun is a strong alternative with slightly more range. Both outclass the standard Pump Shotgun in nearly every scenario.
