Florida's Biodiversity

Florida is one of the most biodiverse US states — home to American alligators, American crocodiles, various shark species, Florida panthers, manatees, dolphins, exotic bird species, and hundreds of snake varieties. GTA 6's Leonida setting provides an opportunity to create the most varied and genuinely dangerous wildlife system the series has ever featured.

Alligators

The Everglades sequences confirmed in the GTA 6 trailer place alligators as a central wildlife element. These apex predators will be actively dangerous — patrolling swamp waterways and ambushing players who enter their territory on foot. Unlike GTA 5's largely passive wildlife, GTA 6's alligators appear to be integrated into Everglades gameplay as genuine hazards.

Sharks and Marine Life

GTA 5 featured sharks as underwater threats near the coast. GTA 6 expands this with more diverse marine wildlife: multiple shark species at different depths, dolphins that may interact with boats, and Florida's extensive reef system populated with exotic fish. The expanded nautical gameplay requires a richer underwater ecosystem.

Birds and Aerial Wildlife

The trailer confirmed pelicans and seagulls along Vice City's coastline. Florida's position on North American migratory routes creates opportunity for a wide variety of bird species. The improved environmental simulation allows for realistic flocking behaviour, nesting activity, and birds that genuinely interact with the game world beyond simply flying away from players.

Gameplay Integration

Wildlife in GTA 6 serves multiple purposes beyond atmosphere: genuine hazard in wilderness areas, potential hunting mechanics similar to Red Dead Redemption 2, integration into specific story and side missions, and the broader ecological simulation that makes Leonida feel like a real place rather than a thematic backdrop.
