Leonida: Rockstar's Florida
Grand Theft Auto VI takes place in the state of Leonida, Rockstar's fictional take on Florida. This marks the return of Vice City — last seen in 2002 — completely rebuilt from the ground up on the latest RAGE engine. The map is confirmed to be the largest in GTA series history, spanning urban, suburban, rural, and coastal environments.
Vice City
The centrepiece of GTA 6's map is a reimagined Vice City drawing from modern Miami: Art Deco architecture, South Beach culture, neon nightlife, luxury condominiums, marina districts, and a sprawling financial centre. The city feels simultaneously familiar to GTA Vice City veterans and completely new in scope and detail.
The Everglades and Rural Leonida
Beyond Vice City lie vast swamplands, bayou environments, and small rural towns reminiscent of Florida's interior. Trailer footage confirms airboat navigation, alligator territory, and quiet rural communities that contrast sharply with Vice City's glamour. These areas have their own criminal networks and side mission chains.
Keys and Coastal Islands
The southern reaches of Leonida feature Florida Keys-style island chains accessible by boat or floatplane. Trailer footage shows tropical islands, coastal waterways, and maritime environments that suggest significant nautical gameplay including smuggling, racing, and underwater exploration.
Map Size vs GTA 5
GTA 5's San Andreas covered approximately 49 square miles of playable space. Early analyst estimates based on trailer proportions place GTA 6's Leonida at 70–100 square miles. Crucially, interior density has also increased dramatically — far more buildings are enterable and explorable than in any previous GTA game.
