The End of Simple Star Accumulation

GTA 5's wanted system — accumulate stars, evade a search radius timer — is being substantially rethought for GTA 6. Leaked footage and Rockstar developer commentary suggest a more realistic system where police coordinate intelligently, remember physical descriptions, and escalate proportionally to crime severity rather than applying uniform heat.

Police Memory

Officers who get a clear look at Lucia or Jason's face or vehicle will retain that description and radio it in. A simple respray may no longer be sufficient evasion if witnesses or traffic cameras captured the vehicle. Players must change both their vehicle AND their appearance — clothing, accessories — to truly clear a high-level wanted status.

Coordinated Response AI

Rather than individual units pursuing recklessly, GTA 6's police set up roadblocks based on predicted routes, helicopters provide aerial overwatch that guides ground units, and specialist units (SWAT equivalent) deploy only for genuinely severe situations. Wanted level confrontations feel like tactical scenarios with counter-play rather than simple endurance tests.

Witnesses and Evidence

NPCs who witness crimes can call police, film incidents on smartphones (creating evidence), and actively flee. Eliminating witnesses becomes a morally dark but mechanically meaningful decision. Evidence filmed by bystanders may increase wanted level even after the player has evaded police — creating a new kind of persistent consequence.

New Evasion Options

Evasion in GTA 6 goes beyond finding a quiet street and waiting. Options include: bribing corrupt contacts, using safehouses to wait out active searches, changing clothing at designated locations, and swapping vehicles in covered locations away from cameras. The system rewards clever play over brute patience.
