The Official Announcement
After years of leaks and fan speculation, Rockstar Games officially confirmed Grand Theft Auto VI in December 2023 with the release of the first official trailer. The announcement broke YouTube records, accumulating over 90 million views within 24 hours — the most-watched game trailer in history at that point.
When Is GTA 6 Coming Out?
Rockstar confirmed a 2025 release window for GTA 6 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. While an exact date has not been confirmed, industry analysts and retail leak patterns point to a spring 2025 window (April–May) or a fall window (September–October). Rockstar traditionally avoids competing directly with major holiday releases from other publishers.
PC Release Timeline
PC players will need to wait longer. Historically, Rockstar releases its PC versions 12–18 months after console launches. GTA 5 launched on PS3/Xbox 360 in September 2013 and did not reach PC until April 2015. A PC version of GTA 6 is expected in 2026 or 2027.
Platform Exclusivity
GTA 6 is confirmed exclusively for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. No last-generation version (PS4 or Xbox One) has been announced. This decision allows Rockstar to build the game without hardware compromises, taking full advantage of current-gen SSDs, GPUs, and RAM.
Why No Exact Date Yet?
Rockstar does not commit to specific dates until delivery is certain. Given GTA 6's estimated multi-billion dollar development budget, the stakes are enormous. A polished launch matters more than hitting an arbitrary date. Expect a specific date announcement approximately 3–4 months before release, accompanied by a new trailer.
