Why Estimates Matter Now
GTA 6 launches on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S — both featuring AMD RDNA 2 GPUs, high-speed NVMe SSDs, and 16GB unified memory. Translating these specifications to PC components gives the clearest picture yet of what GTA 6 will demand. Rockstar will publish official PC requirements well before the PC release.
Estimated Minimum Requirements
To run GTA 6 at 1080p with low-medium settings: Intel Core i7-9700K or AMD Ryzen 5 5600X processor, 16GB DDR4 RAM, NVIDIA RTX 2070 Super or AMD RX 5700 XT GPU with 8GB VRAM, NVMe SSD with 150GB+ free space, Windows 10/11 64-bit, DirectX 12.
Estimated Recommended Requirements
For optimal 1440p or 4K experience with ray tracing: Intel Core i9-12900K or AMD Ryzen 9 7900X, 32GB DDR5 RAM, NVIDIA RTX 4080 or AMD RX 7900 XTX with 16GB VRAM, NVMe SSD with 200GB+ free, Windows 11 64-bit.
NVMe SSD Is Non-Negotiable
GTA 6 is almost certain to require a fast NVMe SSD rather than a traditional spinning hard drive. The PS5 and Xbox Series X use custom SSDs to stream the open world without loading screens. Running GTA 6 from an HDD would cause severe asset streaming stalls and likely make key features non-functional.
Ray Tracing Impact
Enabling ray tracing on PC will substantially reduce performance. Expect ray tracing to be viable at 1080p on an RTX 4070 or equivalent, and at 1440p on an RTX 4080 or above. Full 4K ray tracing will likely require an RTX 4090 for smooth 60fps gameplay.
