Rebuilt Combat System

Grand Theft Auto VI features the most refined combat in the series. Rockstar has rebuilt gunplay with smoother cover mechanics, improved aiming, realistic recoil patterns, and contextual combat moves that respond to the environment. Firefights feel weighty and deliberate rather than arcade-like.

Weapon Categories

Confirmed categories include: pistols and revolvers, SMGs, assault rifles, shotguns (pump and semi-auto), sniper rifles, RPGs and explosives, throwables (grenades, Molotovs), and melee weapons including improvised options from the environment. Each category has multiple options at different price and performance tiers.

Weapon Customisation

Ammu-Nation returns with expanded customisation: suppressors, extended magazines, different scope types, folding stocks, grips, and custom weapon paint. Certain modifications are exclusive to specific criminal contacts rather than standard shop purchases — rewarding players who invest in criminal relationships.

Dual Wielding

Leaked pre-alpha footage shows dual-wielding returning for certain pistol classes — a feature absent from GTA 5. This adds stylistic flair to combat that fits GTA 6's Miami Vice-inspired aesthetic, particularly for Lucia's gameplay sequences.

Ammunition Management

GTA 6 reportedly introduces a more realistic ammunition system where specific calibres have varying availability. Commoner rounds are plentiful; specialist ammo for sniper rifles or explosive rounds requires dedicated sourcing. This adds strategic depth to weapon loadout decisions.
